Storm Hits Grundy County Hard

This storm dumped a lot more snow on counties northeast and west of Chattanooga.

NewsChannel 9 spent the afternoon in Grundy County where up to six inches fell.

TD0T crews stationed in Grundy brought in reinforcement trucks to keep Interstate 24 open.

Around 2′ o’clock Monday morning, they maintained at least one lane continuously open.

TDOT snow plow operators tell NewsChannel 9 I-24 is in good shape in Marion and Grundy Counties.

Throughout the day, NewsChannnel 9 saw very few people outside. It was bitter cold, especially when the wind picked up.

Outside of Tracy City, Sabrina Heck and a friend walked about 300 yards to the store with a friend.

NewsChannel 9 caught up with the 13 year old girl. Through chattering lips and shivers, Heck told us she was “very cold.” The temperature in Monteagle matched the young girl’s age and only climbed a degree or two throughout the day.

In Monteagle, Sanders Crossing and Tracy City, not a single kid was seen riding a sled, building a snowman or even a snowball fight.

Sabrina and her friend had one plan for the day: “Go inside and watch movies.”
