Travelers Stranded In Chattanooga

The ice storm leaves more than a hundred travelers stuck in Chattanooga.  Greyhound buses packed with passengers, were delayed for hours, overnight and into Thursday morning.

Willie Johnson got on his greyhound bus in Chattanooga Thursday morning knowing he’s not going anywhere.  He, along with more than a hundred others, were just waiting, stranded, hoping for a ride.  He says, “Left us in here with no heat, kids, no nothing!”

Johnson is heading to Detroit for his father’s funeral.  “I’m supposed to be burying my daddy today. And I’m stuck here.”

Others have similar stories.  Danielle McDaniel says, “The fact that my uncle is in a hospital about to die and I’m not going to get there, I’m a day behind now.”

Some are travelling with kids.  But the hardest story to hear was Randy Sisk’s.  “Now they’re saying 24 hours, to go to atlanta, i’m having to wait 24 hours to go somewhere 2 hours away.”

She cried because she’s missing the biggest day of her life, her wedding!  “Supposed to be today.”

Instead, she’s sitting in the cold in Chattanooga.  Others are sleeping in the crowded terminal, some wait on the buses, long since turned off, no longer heated.  Tonya McMillan says, “They need to do something for these people.  Everybody is getting mad, there’s about 150 people getting mad.”

As the frustrations grew, we called Greyhound ourselves.  They told us drivers would be on the way shortly, but a few hours later, all the passengers were still there, but no drivers, and no word to those desperately delayed on when they’d reach their destination.  Johnson says, “You got 3 buses with 200 something dollars apiece, we paid their salary, they went to a hotel and deserted us, left us here, with them children.”

The company spokesperson tells us the back up is because roads are closed because of the weather, not because of a lack of drivers.
