Mayoral Candidates Share Goals

We have all read great articles written by popular journalist. This showdown Mayoral Candidates Share Goals was a long time a coming. But Mayoral Candidates Share Goals doesn’t stop here. The writer shows two wonderful talents. Read the the rest sections to see what I mean.

Hamilton County Commission Chairman Fred Skillern confirms Commissioner Jim Coppinger and Mike Carter lead the pack to be the County’s next mayor. NewsChannel 9 asked Coppinger if he had heard the same thing, he told us the commission would “have their fingers more on the pulse.” Carter has not returned NewsChannel 9’s calls for an interview.

Coppinger and candidate Guy Satterfield sat down with NewsChannel 9. Both candidates say keeping taxes down and continuing to lure companies are top priorities.

Satterfield has interviewed with two Hamilton County Commissioners, over the phone. He plans to speak with each commissioner one on one but first thought the interview process was for appearance only. He says his interviews changed his mind.

“I was probably one of the leading skeptics of the bunch, you know saying it’s a done deal, but I don’t believe it is, I believe that they were extremely interested in what I had to say.”

Satterfield brings 38 years experience in government employment to the table. He worked for 35 years in wastewater plants. Before retiring, he last worked as transportation director for the City of Chattanooga. That’s experience he believes would transition well to the Mayor position.

“You kind of get an idea where the money is being spent, how the money should be spent and you for sure get a lesson how money’s wasted,” Satterfield said.

Commissioner Jim Coppinger also wants this position and to continue outgoing Mayor Claude Ramsey’s legacy. Coppinger spent 28 years with the Chattanooga Fire department, eight and a half as Chief. “I would look at it as an opportunity as well as a challenge. We’re going to continue in this county to be recruiting globally and locally,” Coppinger said.

Russell Collins withdrew yesterday…calling the lack of open interviews a clandestine appearance of a “Good Ole Boy” approach. Coppinger responded, “I couldn’t disagree more. The process we’re going through.,I know the integrity of the individuals making this decision. I’ve served with them and I can assure there’s no quote fix in.”

Satterfield stands against moving to metro government and Coppinger says that’s a decision voters will make.

Meanwhile, Richard Rankin and Harry “Buddy” Rogers declined interviews. Candidate Chester I. Clark did not leave contact information with the Commission and Edward Ector’s phone has been disconnected.
