Amtrak will launch a new program to maintain the safety of rail users

Amtrak has a brilliant idea to keep the comfort and security of passengers as they boarded the train. Today, Amtrak plans to launch a new program called Partners for Amtrak Safety and Security. Amtrak will recruit people who often watch and boarded the train to monitor the activity on trains, stations, and on the track.

For the “rail fans” (“rail fans” is the nickname for fans of the train) who wants to join the Partners for Amtrak Safety and Security program can register via online. Those who are accepted will receive a membership card and be taught about safety and security they need to pay attention and give a report. The “rail fans” expected to make a successful program. “They know sometimes better than our employees,” said John O’Connor, Amtrak Police Chief. “They know engine numbers and car numbers and time tables. They know better than the fisherman knows the tides,” he added.

This Partners for Amtrak Safety and Security program comes after the forum that brings Amtrak executives with “rail fans” that was held by Trains magazine last year. Moreover, since the 9 / 11 incident, “rail fans” that often observe and photograph the train operation is often suspected. The program is expected to improve communication between the “rail fans” with Amtrak. In addition, this program also to appreciate the enthusiastic of “rail fans.”

Amtrak latest program is modeled on the BNSF (Burlington Northern Santa Fe) security program. A program of Burlington Northern Santa Fe’s citizens to maintain safety rail that held since 2006. BNSF program has been able to prevent some incidents that could disrupt the safety of train travel, such as potential suicides, trespassers, lost children, suspicious activity and stolen equipment. An interesting program and worth imitated for the safety of rail user.
